If you are reading this Q&A, then you already know of the risk that I have taken by even asking Lemony Snicket these questions about his new autobiography in four parts, Who Could That Be at This Hour?: All the Wrong Questions Volume 1. While he gave us many answers in A Series of Unfortunate Events, we were definitely left with even more questions. As you can see, I tried to get to the heart of the matter. But, as you can also see, I have failed you. Or have I? Perhaps if we read in between the lines we can gather deep insights. In the end it is all about asking the right questions…right?
IndigoKids Blog (IKB): Are you willing to give readers any clues to the contents of your autobiography?
Lemony Snicket (LS): “Mailbox trick.”
IKB: Why now? What was it that made you think that it was safe to tell the world about your childhood?
LS: It’s important to have a written record of certain events made available, even if they aren’t “safe.”
IKB: Will we find out more about V.F.D.?
LS: More than what?
IKB: Is there really a right or wrong question? If so, why?
LS: Why are you asking? Do you think I am dodging the question? Or perhaps my dodge is actually a roundabout way of answering the question you meant to ask in the first place?
IKB: Do you have any favourite mystery books that you find helpful when solving cases?
LS: Lois Lowry’s books about Anastasia Krupnik serve as excellent training manuals in solving crucial if less-dramatic problems.
