Teen Blog

Helping everyone who loves young adult fiction find their next favourite book

About this year's Teen Read Awards...

Last summer teens across Canada debated the merits of each title nominated in ten categories for the first ever Indigo Teen Read Awards. Working in a store during the TRA was fun; the whole teen department buzzed. Unable to vote, many of us championed our preferred titles and authors—and all those bright green stickers created instant conversation starters with customers.

Unfortunately we won't be holding the Teen Read Awards in 2011. Indigo spent a lot of time considering this decision and we decided that this year we would focus on programs for booklovers of all ages. (If you’re wondering if the Teen Read Awards will return in 2012: I don’t have the answer to that question for you yet, but as soon as we know—and legal gives the nod on sharing—you’ll know, too.)

We love the Teen Read Awards as much as you do. We understand how exciting teen literature is and believe it deserves a home on the national stage. We’re so proud of what the Teen Read Awards achieved by bringing together booksellers, authors, and publishers to work (incredibly hard) on a common goal. We want to thank all of the teens who participated; you showed Canada—and the world—that anyone who thinks teens don’t love to read is so totally wrong.

We know you’re disappointed that there won’t be any TRA this summer but Indigo’s commitment to teen fiction hasn’t wavered. Across Canada, our teen lit experts continue to champion the titles we love everyday in our stores and online through Community, Facebook, Twitter and the Indigo Teen Blog.

Because, like the Teen Read Awards, this blog is for you—regardless if you’re a teen or just a teen at heart. All that matters to me is that you love these books or you’re at least willing to give them a chance to be loved.

For now, I’ve been working on a minimum of two interviews/guestposts for each month and looking into new ways to stay on top of which titles are releasing and when. But in light of the absence of the Teen Read Awards this year, we’ll have to do something special on the blog during the summer. We’re exploring the idea of an epic author tour where each week has a different guestpost. But we want to hear from you.

On that note: What titles are you waiting for? Which authors do you want to see featured? What events and conferences would you like the blog to cover?

I’m not going to pretend that this is the only teen book blog in Canada, but it is the only one that has the support and reach of Indigo Books & Music behind it and I will always try to get what you do want. You just have to let me know what it is.
